It's Valentine's Day 2021 and we are having Church!
While we realize this is a day we often express our love for our “significant other”, we believe it's also a wonderful day to express our love in Worship to God! As a matter of fact, every day should be all about that whether we are at church, in our homes or working at our jobs!
Yet, we are also reminded in the Word of God to “love one another” as we can see in a familiar passage of scripture found in 1 John 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV) 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Valentine's Day is February 14th (as always), but this year February 14th is on a Sunday!
Jesus says in Matthew 22:39, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But we know that it's preceded by another and greater commandment. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
While we realize Valentine's Day's primary purpose is the expression of love between each other, the foundation for the kind of love God wants us to have is in the Word of God!
Valentine's Day is an opportunity to show others our love. We give candy, flowers, and gifts to friends and loved ones. It's literally a sweet day, with sentiment and real sweets. It's good to show love to those we love and to love our enemies as well. Jesus says in Matthew 22:39, ” Love your neighbor as yourself.” But we know that it's preceded by another and greater commandment. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
