Thanksgiving Letter – The Forgotten Holiday?

Thanksgiving Greetings!

The Bible tells of a beautiful story of Jesus providing miraculous healings for ten individuals suffering from Leprosy. This amazing story is found in Luke 17:11-19, and while it shares the incredible fact that Jesus is our healer, it also gives a powerful lesson on thankfulness.

If you take time to read the story, you will see that out of the ten who experienced healing from this horrible disease, only one of them took the opportunity to turn around and thank Jesus face to face.

Luke 17:15-16 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

Invitation to Share on Church Wall of Thanks

Greetings in Christ!

As we draw closer to the Holiday Season in which we celebrate a time of thankfulness just prior to remembering and appreciating the birth of our Savior, we thought it would be nice to observe the Thanksgiving season in a unique way.

During the month of November we will dedicate space on one of our walls in the church foyer as a “Wall of Thanks”. On this space we will hang paper, and we are asking each and every person who would like to share a thought, testimonial or drawing of what they are thankful for by using the supplied colored pencils to share.

Thanksgiving Letter to Church

Thanksgiving Greetings!

Most of us who have or have had Children started teaching them the basics as they were in their formative years. We taught them to say “please” when they wanted something, but we also taught them to say “thank you” upon receiving a blessing.

It wasn't something they were born with, but the more we taught them not only with our words but also with our examples, they began to use these powerful words. And for that, we are thankful!

The Bible tells us in Psalm 107:8-9 – 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

A Thankful Spirit – Thanksgiving Letter

Thanksgiving Greetings!

It seems so appropriate that before we get to “the most wonderful time of the year”, that we take a few moments to express our thanks to God.

For many people Thanksgiving is a day to eat too much and watch football for the entire day. Yet, we as Christians know it goes far deeper than that, even though we may enjoy those things as well.

It's important that we have a thankful spirit!

John Henry Jowett, a British preacher of an earlier generation, said this about gratitude: “Gratitude is a vaccine, an antitoxin, and an antiseptic.” What did he mean? He meant that gratitude, like a vaccine, can prevent the invasion of a disgruntled, discouraged spirit. Like an antitoxin, gratitude can prevent the effects of the poisons of cynicism, criticalness, and grumbling. Like an antiseptic, a spirit of gratitude can soothe and heal the most troubled spirit.

There are a few things I wanted to share about the importance of having a thankful spirit so please take a few moments to read them.
