It is with deep appreciation I take this opportunity to write to you at this time that our Nation dedicates to honoring War Veterans.
When our Country called, you answered. While time goes by and many people seem to go on with life with little or no regard for the sacrifices of our Veterans, I want to assure you that we here at First Christian Church hold you in high esteem.
I am writing briefly to our entire congregation during this time of Stewardship Emphasis at First Christian Church. I want to express appreciation for your faithfulness over the years in generous giving of Tithes and Offerings.
It is evident that the Hand of God is upon this congregation. The obvious tangible evidence is all around us!
Many of our members and adherents can testify to the faithfulness of God in their own lives as they have given to the Lord a Tithe (tenth) of their income to their local church. Numerous verses in the Old Testament refer to the practice of tithing. Jesus Himself in the New Testament told of the importance of tithing when He rebuked the Hypocritical Pharisees. Luke 11:42 – But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Once again we are enjoying the beauty of God's creation all around us as the transition is made from Summer to Fall, and then from Fall to Winter.
We live in such a beautiful part of the country as the Autumn leaves fill the trees with brilliant colors making the hills look like gigantic multi-colored flowers!
I greet you in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Many of you have watched as I have, the disaster that has unfolded in the State of Texas. Words such as “epic” and “unprecedented” are being used to describe an event many of us have never even imagined we would see unfold in our lifetime. Some have said that it is not just a 100-year flood, but that it's in the 500-800 year range.
It has been heartbreaking to watch as families are escaping the flood waters (not all have escaped), with just a pair of shoes and a back pack to take with them to the nearest shelter where they will receive much-needed assistance at least temporarily. Children look at their surroundings in bewilderment, but to be quite honest, adults are doing the same thing. 1 John 3:17 says this; If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?
In October, First Christian Church will celebrate it’s 100th anniversary! To celebrate 100 years of the Lord’s faithfulness, we would like to extend an invitation to a special celebratory service to be held on Sunday, October 23rd, and then to a luncheon where we will spend time in fellowship as a body.
