The Value of the Resurrection
Easter stands at the very heart of the Christian faith. It is not merely a seasonal celebration or a religious tradition—it is the foundation upon which all Christian hope rests. Without Easter, Christianity would lose its power, its message, and its purpose. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the defining truth that gives meaning to every promise in Scripture and assurance to every believer.

Because Jesus lives, believers have confidence not only for this life but also for eternity. 1 Peter 1:3 (NASB) proclaims, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” This living hope sustains Christians in trials, strengthens them in suffering, and reminds them that the best is yet to come.
Third, Easter validates every promise Jesus made. Throughout His ministry, Jesus spoke of His death and resurrection. When He rose on the third day, He proved that His words are trustworthy. This gives believers confidence in all of His teachings—about forgiveness, eternal life, and His return. If Jesus conquered the grave, then every promise He has given is secure.
Additionally, Easter offers transformation for daily living. The resurrection is not only a future hope; it is a present reality. Through faith in Christ, believers experience new life. Romans 6:4 (NASB) teaches that “just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” Easter reminds Christians that they are no longer bound by their past. They are empowered to live differently—freed from sin’s control and enabled by God’s Spirit to grow in righteousness.
Furthermore, Easter unites believers in a shared message of hope for the world. The resurrection is the cornerstone of the gospel message. It is the good news that Christians are called to proclaim—that forgiveness is available, that life can be restored, and that death is not the end. This makes Easter a powerful opportunity for evangelism, inviting others to encounter the life-changing reality of Christ.
Finally, Easter assures believers of their own resurrection. Because Jesus rose, those who trust in Him will also rise. Death is no longer something to fear but a doorway into eternal life. Jesus declared in John 11:25 (NASB), “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies.” This promise brings comfort, especially in times of loss, and anchors the believer’s confidence in God’s eternal plan.
In summary, the value of Easter to the Christian cannot be overstated. It is the celebration of victory, the source of hope, the validation of truth, the power for new life, the message to be shared, and the assurance of eternity. Easter changes everything—because Jesus lives.
