William Bradford, Governor of the Plymouth Colony made this proclamation in 1623: “Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as He has protected us from the ravages of the savages,
Psalms 95:2 (NIV) says; Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
In this season of Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to encourage you and your family to join with us here at FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH for a special Thanksgiving Eve Service which will begin at 6:00 PM here at the church.
What a wonderful time of the year it is when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
As with any year, we enter this season with it's own set of unique challenges and events, yet we know Christ is still the same “yesterday, today, and forever”.
There is no other day of the year that holds the significance of what we celebrate on Easter Sunday – the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Savior. It was a day of joy and celebration then and it is a day of joy and celebration now. What we celebrated then is what we continue to celebrate today – that we serve a risen Lord.
A spirit of thankfulness will take us far in helping us to appreciate the little things around us, as well as those things we might consider “bigger blessings”. It's amazing to think that everything that comes into our lives first of all is sifted through the loving hands of our Heavenly Father!
