Church Offering Letter – Haiti Earthquake Disaster (2)

Dear

I greet you in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and encourage you to read the following note with an open heart concerning the need presented here.

When Thomas Edison was 67 years old, spontaneous combustion broke out in his film room. Everything was destroyed. The next morning, Edison looked at the ruins and said, “There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew.” Three weeks after the fire, Edison managed to deliver the first phonograph.

Fortunately, most of us will never have to live through a disaster that destroys everything we own.

However, our neighbors in Haiti are rising every morning amid the ruins of their homeland following the terrible earthquake that recently struck the island.

For people who have already suffered from crippling poverty and lack of education, this catastrophe brings unimaginable suffering.

However, in nature's destruction lie the seeds of hope for the future, and the tragedy suffered by the Haitians is an opportunity for we as Christians to shower them with the Love of God. Christ instructs us to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27).

Here at FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH, we are blessed to enjoy the benefits of living in safety and abundance. What better way for us to follow our Lord's call than to share our blessings with the victims of the Haitian earthquake? To that end, we will receive a special offering on Sunday, MONTH, DAY, to benefit earthquake relief for Haiti.

Please search your heart and give what the Lord places in your heart to share.

Blessings in Christ,

Pastor John Doe

Hurricane Donation Appeal – (Outside of Community)

Dear

We are all painfully aware that many people have been devastated by the Hurricane (Name). While we are thankful that the human toll was low, we must not forget the many people in these areas of our Country who lost everything they own.

For this reason, I am asking those who can, to give a special offering that will be used to help the victims of the hurricane.

Please note: We will be sending the money given through this effort to Convoy of Hope. This Charity has proven to be a worthy conduit of blessing for receiving and distributing such funds. (Use any Charity here you are comfortable with).

I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose everything: family photographs, wedding albums, the kid’s first drawings as it would be such a time of trial.

To suffer such a loss and to deal with not having the most basic necessities, such as food, shelter, and clothing, would be so difficult.

No doubt, you and I will probably never get to meet the people we bless through this time of giving, rest assured, we are serving a wonderful Lord who sees and knows our hearts as we reach out to be a blessing.

Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV) 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

While some items certainly can’t be replaced, I’d like First Christian Church to do what we can. We often hear the phrase “do unto others” quoted, and this is a perfect situation to take that attitude to heart.

If it were your family, wouldn’t you want others to step up and lend a hand in helping you get back on your feet? This is part of our obligation and a wonderful opportunity to show God’s love through our actions as the church.

I look forward to the opportunity to bless the lives of those most affected by the hurricane, and I hope that you will do what you can to bring blessings to those who have lost so much.

Thank you in advance for being prayerful about giving to this worthy cause.

In Christ,
Pastor John Doe
